Downshifts can be a bit clunky at lower RPM (< 3000), so I generally shift down early at 4000 RPM to make sure the quick shifter can do it's job.Īnother thing I've found that makes it clunky and I failed to mention it, is being high in the rev range but not having enough throttle. Even so, I'd say the Kawasaki quick shifter is not perfect. But the 1000 makes that easy since the power band is literally flat on that thing, so it's basically making peak power at that point anyway. I don't think you really have to hold it pinned per se, but I'd say maybe shift a little earlier, I've found the shifts to be a bit clunky with the quick shifter depending on your current speed, gear, and throttle position at the time of the shift - I've had some seriously clunky shifts when at super high RPM (like red line at 10k for the 1000), but buttery smooth shifts at 6-7000 RPM as long as I held consistent throttle. I believe the mechanism that shifts has a sort of "reset" that has to occur to shift again by returning it to middle. I don't think it's possible to hold it up too long. Thank you all who can spare some insight!Įdit: this problem doesn’t happen in 4th 5th or 6th

Does anyone have suggestions on how I can avoid having this happen or is it potentially mechanical?Ī bit of background: I grew up on dirt bikes and atvs from the age of 4 and rode till I was 21 at 26 I got my a ninja 650 at the start of the year and upgraded to a 2021 zx-6r about 6 weeks ago, so I’m still new to motorcycle riding but have a lot of experience with manual motor sports. It is possibly due to how quick this bike is I’m not clicking it hard enough but I’d be surprised to see that’s the case. I am always wearing riding boots but have never had this problem on my trx450r or my ninja 650. Additionally when shifting into 3rd let’s say at 8k rpm with the clutch in, ive had it on multiple occasions just stay in 2nd until I click up a second time. When quick shifting into 2nd on an on ramp I’ve hit neutral a couple times, but when shifting w clutch never have had that issue. So I’ve noticed under hard acceleration 50-100% throttle I’m having two different things happen.
